The crest is that for the regiments and separate battalions of the Iowa Army National Guard: On a wreath Argent and Azure a hawk's head erased Proper.

The shield is white, the old Infantry color. The bend archy in the form of a rainbow shows the service of the Regiment in World War I in the 42d Division. The cactus represents the Mexican Border service and the palm tree the Philippine service.
